Back2Basics, LLC is starting a new venture this year of highlighting one of many wonderful local small business owners each month. These articles are intended to help educate other small business owners on the trials and triumphs of starting, growing and operating a small business brand. It’s also our way of giving back to the community we serve every day in highlighting small businesses we think deserve to have their business highlighted in a positive space to wide audience.
In this issue, Back2Basics’ Small Business Highlight of the month is Mainstream Boutique of Maple Grove MN
We’re speaking with Donna Rongstad who is one of the co-owners of Mainstream Boutique. Located in The Grove across from Target and the Maple Grove Hospital, Mainstream Boutique ias been in business 7 years and was successfully voted as the Best Apparel Boutique in Osseo/Maple Grove for six years running. They’re also expected to make the same honor again in 2019 when the winners are announced this June.
Here are a few of the topics we covered in our conversation with Donna today.
Q: Why did get you get into business?
Answer: “I had been shopping a Farmer’s Market in Minneapolis for years and always came home with a piece from the Mainstream Boutique booth there. I told the girl working there she was missing an opportunity by not having a Mainstream Boutique in Maple Grove. When the woman told us we could own our own franchise I spoke to my daughter and we decided we were going to open our own location.”
Q: Would you say it’s important to do what you love?
Answer: “My daughter and I both love shopping for clothes and were able to take that passion to a business we love. We love coming to work and seeing all the new stuff from Mainstream Boutique’s custom lines as well as local clothing vendors and artists.”
Q: What resources do you use to grow and manage your business?
Answer: “Mainstream Boutique corporate offers a lot of online resources and training, but much of what we learned about running a clothing boutique came from our own research and from connecting with other small business owners and leaders through networking. Our local networking partners and the local Chamber of Commerce were instrumental in providing us support and guidance. Today, we also leverage social media like Facebook and Instagram to help us further our reach and stay connected with our core customers.”
