Back2Basics, LLC is a proud woman-only, woman-owned small business marketing consulting agency in the Minneapolis area of the Twin Cities.
It has long-been the goal of Back2Basics’ owner, president, Tanya Troska to who has a special mission to help other women-owned businesses, entrepreneurs or female-empowered executive officers and non-profits excel in their own missions. This, of course, does not mean the Back2Basics consumer profile is limited to women-only. In fact, Back2Basics clientele currently exists of 35% male-owned and/or operated businesses across the country; including California, Wisconsin, Texas, Colorado and here in Minnesota.
So what does the woman-first business mission mean then?
It means equalizing playtime in the realm of client needs and product solution partnerships with a strong emphasis on empowering woman. This is an initiative the company’s owner has long discussed when working in fields of sales and technology that was long-dominated by male counterparts in the workforce; dating back more than 20+ years, and starting in the “good-ol-boys-club” of real estate sales and into the world of digital marketing, web design and SEO solutions. Today, when Back2Basics reviews the number of incoming prospective client service, training or support requests, one of the chief decisions it must take into account is the customized solutions it will need to provide the customer, the resources required to meet those goals, the duration of those solutions needed, and the diversity of those being served.
The number of businesses and/or non-profits being served at any one given moment is intentionally kept to scale so each customer is able to receive a personalized experience. The goal is to help the client succeed at their goals; however great or small, without depleting the personalized feel of their custom solution. Once you decide growth is more important than personalization… to the point the majority of your service and its solutions are systemized, you lose the ability to help those clients make strategic shifts in their goals, or fill in blanks or gaps that could better optimize the outcome, or even find other opportunities to capitalize on for both the client and your own business.
There needs to be a balance.
If this balance means some limitations in the numbers served each month, so be-it. Quality vs Quantity. With that said, Back2Basics would never turn away business they feel qualified to provide if the capacity is available and there were no other opportunities on the horizon. However, if they had to choose between two prospective customers; assumingly being equal in every other way with the exception of owner or operator gender-bias, Back2Basics may choose to decline the business of the non-woman empowered brand. Of course there are a lot of other reasons this may or may not be the final decision; including, but not limited to, unreasonable expectations, personality compatibility, the amount of available resources required, financial considerations, project duration, or locality to name a few.
3-to-1 or 60% ratio
With a long list of considerations in any business transaction, the goal to support the empowerment of women in the marketplace is one of the strongest motivators for Back2Basics when working with clients, vendors, partners and affiliates. And, because it’s one of Back2Basics’ top priorities, an internal decision was made to work toward a 3-to-1 ratio or a minimum of 60% of the make of those clients or business relationships within the scope of women-owned or operated businesses, or businesses who have empowered at least 30% of their female workforce to take on leadership roles within the organization.
Is this a perfect science? NO. There are still heavily male-dominated industries that need to be served or are a segment in which Back2Basics needs service from, but in the age of the #ME2 movement, B2B will continue to push forward to find and/or create opportunity.
So, who does Back2Basics work with?
The Back2Basics clientele come from a diverse community of industry including real estate, construction, professional trades, food & beverage, wine & beer, community non-profits, religious and spiritual non-profits, other marketing segments, finance & insurance, health & beauty, software & app development, legal and more.
